Vacu Vin's first product was a wine pump based on a vacuum, also called a "wine guard". Air is sucked out of a wine bottle opened with a wine pump. The air would would otherwise spoil the wine in a few days (the wine begins to turn into vinegar when it reacts with the air). Caps for use with a wine pump act as a guarantor of effective sealing.
