Our sustainability practices are guided in our daily work by the UN Sustainable Development Principles, our Environmental Policy (ISO 14001:2015), Quality Guidelines (ISO 9001:2015), Occupational Health and Safety Guidelines (ISO 45001:2015), Information Security Policy (ISO 27001:2022), and principles related to social and governance responsibility.
Our sustainability work is based on the principle of continuous improvement and is driven by the requirements set by society, our stakeholders, and the business environment, as well as our commitment to international human rights principles and respect for employees and stakeholders.
Mastermark Oy is committed to acting in a socially and ethically exemplary manner. We are a member of amfori BSCI, and our Code of Conduct is based on the UN Sustainable Development Principles. In addition to these principles, we comply with all applicable laws and regulations in everything we do. The Code of Conduct provides the foundation for working in accordance with our values. We require our entire supply chain to commit to and follow the same principles.
In recognition of our sustainability efforts, Mastermark has been awarded the EcoVadis Gold Certificate for the third consecutive year. EcoVadis is the world’s most recognized and respected sustainability certification. Out of 2 million companies that have applied for the EcoVadis certificate, 130,000 companies across 180 countries have been certified. The EcoVadis Gold Certificate is awarded to only 5% of all certified companies.
The EcoVadis certificate is granted to the top 35% of all companies that apply, with four levels of certification: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum. EcoVadis evaluates companies based on criteria related to climate, environment, labor and human rights, ethics, and procurement. The methods and ratings used in the evaluation are based on international sustainability standards such as the UN Global Compact, the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI), and the ISO 26000 standard.
Despite increasingly stringent annual requirements, Mastermark aims to achieve the Platinum level, which is attained by only 1% of companies globally.
Mastermark is committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goals for 2030. Our responsibility work covers economic, social, and environmental aspects, with clear metrics and targets set for 2030. Results are reported annually.
Our environmental policy reflects our commitment to a greener future and sustainable business practices. Mastermark Oy is dedicated to minimizing environmental impacts and promoting sustainability across all operations. Our key goals include:
• Carbon Neutrality: Achieve carbon neutrality for our own operations (Scope 1 and 2) by 2035.
• Emission Reduction: Cut Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 45% by 2030 and expand Scope 3 reporting to indirect procurement by 2027.
• Energy Efficiency: Reduce energy consumption by 20% and switch all sites to renewable energy by 2030, with 5% of production electricity from solar panels.
• Waste Reduction: Decrease mixed waste at our sites by 90% by 2030 and promote recycling and circular economy practices.
• Compliance & Certification: Operate under ISO 14001:2015 and meet all legal and regulatory requirements.
• Employee Engagement: Provide annual environmental responsibility training for all staff.
• Collaboration: Work with customers, suppliers, and partners to advance environmental initiatives and require suppliers to commit to climate action.
We monitor progress through clear indicators and report annually in our sustainability report, available on our website.
Mastermark is committed to reducing its climate impact and operating responsibly. Carbon footprint calculation helps us monitor emissions and develop actions toward carbon neutrality. Our calculation is based on GHG-protocol. The Chamber of Commerce in Finland has verified our Scope 1 and 2 calculations from 2024.
Our targets and commitments
Our carbon neutrality target is set for 2035, and our short-term goal is to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 45% by 2030. The Science Based Targets initiative has approved the reduction targets we have set.
Our actions to reduce emissions
• We will transition to using renewable energy at all our sites during 2025. In 2024, the share of fossil-free energy was 99% of electricity consumption and 89% of district heating consumption.
• We have improved our energy efficiency by replacing fluorescent lighting with LED fixtures at our sites and installing motion-sensor lighting in meeting rooms and other areas. The replacement of lighting continues. A charging station for electric vehicles has been installed at our Ravurinkatu site.
• For refueling our own diesel-powered vehicles, we instruct the use of MyDiesel, which accounted for 11% in 2024.
• For domestic transportation, we work with partners who provide us with zero-emission delivery options.

Our management and quality system is certified with ISO 9001, our environmental system with ISO 14001, our occupational health and safety system with ISO 45001 and our Information Security system whit ISO 27001, all granted by Kiwa Inspecta.
EcoVadis is the most internationally recognized sustainability rating.
We have received the Strongest in Finland (AAA Platinum) certificate from Asiakastieto.
The Climate Commitment is a program by the Finland Chamber of Commerce, where companies commit to achieving carbon neutrality by 2035.
Our data protection documentation has been created using D-fence tools.
Some of our products have been awarded the Design from Finland certificate.
Rinki is a producer responsibility organization for packaging materials: we report the packaging we place on the market and pay a recycling fee accordingly.
We are a member of amfori, an international organization that conducts social responsibility audits across the supply chain.
The Reliable Partner program (by Vastuu Group) ensures compliance with the Finnish Contractor’s Obligations Act.
The Oiva Report is a public document resulting from official inspections of food premises. It informs consumers about findings during the inspection, such as hygiene standards and product safety.
